Free Entertainment Ideas

We're on a tight budget this summer, but that doesn't mean we can't have fun! You can spend tons of money on entertainment if you want to, but there are so many free things to do if you keep your eyes peeled for them. I think it's really good to keep a big list (like this one) on the fridge or somewhere visible so that when you're bored or about to spend money on entertainment, you can see all the free options available! The most important tip: There have been so many times that we have headed for a fun activity where we had no plans to spend the money. Do you know what happened? We got hungry or forgot something important and ended up spending money on food or sunscreen. If you are leaving, try to anticipate your needs. We almost always bring snacks and bottled water when we go somewhere. Think about everything you might need and try to plan ahead. Bottles of water, insect repellent, sunglasses, small flashlight ... It takes 10 minutes and can keep you from spending extra money that you didn't plan on.

The library: People totally underestimate the library! Although I love to read, I also know that the library offers more than just books. Books: never a bad way to spend your time Movies: Many libraries have a wide selection of movies that you can rent for free. Audiobooks and Magazines: You can view books on CD or tape. They will have audiobooks for children, teens, and adults. Our library website provides access to free audiobooks and e-books that you can download directly to your phone or computer. We use this all the time. We also have access to a free application through our library that allows us to consult magazines on our phone or tablet. Pass: Check to see if your library offers passes for museums, state parks, area attractions, and campgrounds. We got free passes to local museums, state and national parks! Events: book clubs, movie nights, story time, educational talks… Most libraries have a ton of activities. Free!
